JEREMIAH ROHRER : WILD CHERRY TONIC EXPECTORAL Jeremiah Rohrer is first listed in the Lantis Lancaster City Directory from 1866-1867. He was listed as wines, liquors and Rohrer's Wild Cherry Tonic. His establishment (liquor store ) was located at 22 Penn Street Lancaster, Pa. In the same directory he is also listed under Herb Bitters Manufactures. Below are photos of the ROHRER'S // WILD / CHERRY / TONIC / EXPECTORAL // LANCASTER, PA. This rectangle, triangular shape bottle has roped corners. These early bottles were produced with an iron pontil and later bottles with a smooth base. The example below has an iron pontil.
Above are advertisements which were placed in the 1884 Ferris Bros. Lancaster City Directory. The first ad says " Rohrer's Wild Cherry Tonic sold at Rohrer's Liquor Store 22 Center Square Lancaster, Pa." Ad two says "Rohrer's liquor store 22 center Square Lancaster, Pa. "and the third ad says "Foreign and Domestic Liquors of all kinds Rohrer's 22 Center Square Lancaster, Pa." 22 Penn Square and 22 Center Square must be the same address. This ad was place several times though out this directory. His competition must have been Huey & Christ makers of Dr. Stoever's Bitters from Lancaster. There are several ads for Dr. Stoever's Bitters though out the directory also. Below is a trade card.
