WILLIAM R. WARNER : A MEDICINE COMPANY The William R. Warner Co. was established in Philadelphia, Penn. in 1866 by a retail druggist named William R. Warner. He was credited with the making of the first sugar coated pills. He would merge his company with the Pfeiffer Chemical Co. from St. Louis in 1908. The Philadelphia plant would be relocated to New York City. By 1952 the company acquired the Chilcott Laboratories and the name changed to Warner-Chilcott. Below is a photo of one of his bottles from Philadelphia. It is embossed WM. R. WARNER & CO. / (monogram) W & CO. / PHILADELPHIA in a cobalt blue color.
