JOHN R. GARNETT: COMPOUND VEGETABLE BITTERS RICHMOND, VIRGINIA Recently there was a Garnett's Compound Vegetable Bitters bottle up for auction in Ebay's pre 1900 bitters bottles. Unfortunately there was a hole near the base of the bottle. The bottle was amber and embossed Garnett's / Compound / Vegetable Bitters / Richmond, Virginia. This bottle is listed as extremely rare in the RingHam Bitters book. Below are photos of this bottle. ![]() ![]() It appears that John R. Garnett was a doctor and a druggist. He is listed in the Richmond Directory from 1869 to 1878 as Dr. John R. Garnett. In 1869 to 1871 he was located at 615 E. Broad Street. Also in 1869 is a listing for a Garnett and Vaiden located at 711 E. Broad Street. From 1871 to 1878 the address was 629-633 E. Broad Street. In 1876 to 1883 Garnett and Winn is listed at 633 E. Broad Street. The partnership that John Garnett had with Thomas S Winn ended in June 2 1883. Below is a ad that was placed in the Daily Dispatch Newspaper July 10 1883 by Thomas S.
