HAZELTON'S HIGH PRESSURE CHEMICAL FIRE KEG

These fire kegs was used from 1885 to 1900

J. Hazelton and Son were dealers in drygoods, millnery, hair goods, laces, edgings, mourning goods, ect. There firm was located at 78 State Block, North Main Street, Concord, N. H. This was a very well known store in the city and claimed to be the oldesy in the city. J Hazelton established his company in 1842 and conducted it until 1885. His son Frank R. Hazelton was admitted into the business in 1885.

Frank Hazelton had some inventions and patents which he has successfully put upon the market. The first was an umbrella displayer and the second is a hat pendants for displaying hats and bonnets and also a fire extinguisher.

The company would employ six to ten polite and competent assistants.

The Hazelton's High Pressure Fire Keg invented by Frank R. Hazelton conists of a glass keg with a wire bail, height is 17 inches and a diameter of 6 inches The keg is charged under heavy pressureby machinery with carbonic acid gas and water and is hermetically sealed. Previous to charging powerful chemicals are placed in the keg and act as a refeinforcement to the first volume of gas by generating a second volume of fire extinguighing gas, caused by the heat of the fire.

Heat is not required to generate the fist volume of gas, as it is always ready under heavy pressure. In a partition fire it is invaluable on accounts of the two volumes of gas. The liquid forms a fireproofing coating. There can be no waste of gas in transit, as there is when the hose and nozzel are used.

The keg was used in building, railroad cars, steamships and attached to fire departments and police patrol wagons. Total weight of the keg was ten pounds.

Inventor Frank Hazelton was born in 1857 and passd in 1934.
