DR DAVID JAYNE: ALTERATIVE & EXPECTORANT David Jayne was born in 1799 in Monroe, Country Pennsylvania. He would graduate from the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania. By 1925 he started practicing medicine in Cumberland County and then in Salem County, New Jersey. His first proprietary medicine he introduced was Carminative Balsam in 1831 followed by the Liniment or Counter- Irritant in the later 1830s. In 1836 he would purchase a drug store at No. 20 south Third Street in Philadelphia. His business was growing rapidly and by 1845 he move to No. 8 South Third Street. In 1848 he began to build a ten story high building on the south side of Chest Nut Street in Philadelphia. The building was completed in the autumn of 1850. By 1850 he formed a partnership with his son David W. Jayne and his nephew Eben C. Jayne to operate the wholesale drug business. In 1855 a new partner joined the firm a John K. Walker. He was the brother-in-law of Dr. D. Jayne. Now the firm was called the Dr. Jayne & Sons. From 1858. Dr. D Jayne would die on March 5 1866.
